Conserve Water, Go Green with Yellow: Peeing in the Shower Saves Water and Dollars

In a world of "Green" initiatives, the Golden Shower takes on a whole new meaning. Most of us have heard the old phrase, 'If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown flush it down.'” While this is still a way to conserve water there is another idea that I would like to share. I was reading an article the other day that asked women if they peed in the shower. Seventy-five percent of those polled do in fact pee in the shower. Now I am sure there are a lot of women reading this right now going ewwww..thats gross but urine is virtually sterile and nearly odorless.

So here is where the "Green" part comes in. I am going with the fact that most people take a shower each day. Hold in that pee close to shower time. Once in the shower, just let it go. Women, you get to see what it feels like to stand up and pee. Not only will it be a change from the normal but you are also helping conserve water. For each less flush you save approximately 1.6 gallons of water(older toilets, even more). So now here is the math part of your conservation. This will also help you save money on your water bill.

Based on 1 person

1 less flush per day = 1.6 gallons conserved

7 less per week = 11.2 gallons conserved

over 52 weeks (1yr) = 582.4 gallons of water saved.

Family of 4

4 less flush per day = 6.4 gallons conserved

28 less per week = 44.8 gallons conserved

over 52 weeks (1yr) = 2329.6 gallons of water saved.

If you combine this idea along with the "yellow mellow" method you will be doing even more to help conserve one of our earths resources.
